The new 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel will
put the upcoming Chevy Silverado at the head of its class, earning
277-horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and will achieve drastic improvements
in terms of fuel efficiency and overall capability. It is the first time an
inline-six turbo-diesel engine will be available in a full-size light-duty
truck from Chevrolet. The new 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel will match the
available 6.2-liter V8 engine in price.
The Turbo-Diesel will be paired with the 10L80
10-speed automatic transmission from GM, which features a centrifugal pendulum
absorber torque converter for reduced vibration and enhanced performance,
efficiency, and smoothness of ride. This powertrain combo will also offer
exhaust braking, which plays on the diesel engine’s compression system to
assist in slowing the truck. This means braking will require the driver to
perform fewer brake applications when driving in the helpful Tow/Haul mode.
When the 2020 Silverado 1500 arrives at Fullen Motor Company, you’ll be able to purchase it with this must-have new engine option.
This February, Chevy unveiled its all-new 2020 Silverado HD lineup, and it sure is formidable and fearsome. The 2020 Silverado HD is the strongest, most capable Silverado HD ever created by the automaker and provides unparalleled amounts of power, capability, and daring. Not only did the Silverado HD become more powerful for the 2020 model year, but it also became bigger: it’s longer, wider, and taller than its previous iteration.
Backing up the 2020 Silverado HD’s bold presence on the road is a new standard powertrain. The truck comes equipped with a new standard 6.6-liter V8 engine with direct injection technology, which delivers 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The new engine improves upon the previous engine, offering a 11 percent jump in horsepower, a 22 percent increase in torque, and an 18 percent higher max towing capacity.
Remarkably, such offerings appear humble when compared to the truck’s second powertrain option: the Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V8 engine. This jaw-dropping engine delivers 445 horsepower, 910 lb-ft of torque, and comes mated to a new Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission. Across the board, the 2020 Silverado HD’s diesel drivetrain has been updated, leading it to offer a 52-percent increase in towing capacity compared to the previous model. With this engine, the 2020 Silverado HD is capable of towing up to a whopping 35,500 pounds.
